Welcome to My Office!
Have a seat and I will get you some tea. Or do you prefer coffee? I am a tea person. I will give you a tour. This is my office.
Many people often wonder what the life of a writer looks like. You see writers in television shows and Hollywood movies. Their lives look so amazing and out of the ordinary. Big closets full of amazing clothes and shoes not to mention that great apartment and the ability to travel the world all the time.
Just as everything else in Hollywood – being a writer is often romanticized. Not to say being a writer isn’t amazing. Because… OH… IT… REALLY IS!!!
I love being a writer.
It’s just a lot more work than they say it is. It isn’t just as easy as write a book, get it
published, make millions, have a movie made of your novel, and live happily ever after. Sounds nice, but it just isn’t that easy.
Writing a book is hard work.
“Easy reading is damn hard writing.” ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne
A Day In The Writer’s Life of Devin
After waking up, I usually check my emails, messages, and Facebook. Then I usually talk
to my boyfriend via Skype, since I am in a long distance relationship. I am so lucky, because he is hosting my blog tour today! I am so lucky to have such a supportive and encouraging boyfriend. Last year, for my birthday he made me the necklace that one of the witches in my Novel wears. Here is a picture of it. 🙂 So, Johan… I just needed to talk you up a bit… you are an amazing man and I am thankful for you!
After all of that, I sit down to write usually. But lately, I’ve been revising my latest novel. It is almost done. I try to get all my writing done in my office, because I find that anywhere else is distracting.
What is your writing process? How do you get ideas?
I get inspired by life and everything around me. That is how I believe I get my ideas. Also through dreams.
But, my writing process involves sitting down. Writing in my notebook. Fleshing out my characters and making a world seem realistic.
Some Things I Find Useful For My Writing Time
- Write Schedule – Make a small list (about 3 things)
- Stick to Schedule – Finish those three things
- During Your Writing Time – Set a timer and work (write) for so many minutes (I usually set it for 30 minutes.) After that do something else for 30 minutes and then come back to writing after.
- Get up and move – Exercise helps a lot.
- Wall of Inspiration – In the picture to the right, you will see a bunch of pictures. That is my wall of inspiration. On the magnetic board I have pics that I put up about 2 years ago, and I’ve added more as time has gone by. Of what characters look like and quotes that mean something to me and encourage me while writing my novel.
What are some things that you find useful when writing? And what does a day in the life of you, look like?
